Cognates in English and Spanish
Cognates are a good way to teach ELLs a second language. It actually helps them relate their knowledge of some of the words in their native language, Spanish to words that are very similar in English. It’s very useful also in some dual language programs where the goal is for students to speak English and Spanish fluently.
This document offers about 170 cognates in English and Spanish to support students in learning this skill. Also included in the text are sentences comprising of those cognates in English and Spanish.
